Common questions

British Dressage scoring, answered.

How many marks is an error of course under British Dressage rules?

Under British Dressage rules the first error of course costs 2 marks, the second a further 4, and the third error means elimination. Marks come off the sheet total before the percentage is worked out.

PSG to Grand Prix sheets use the FEI rule printed on the sheet: elimination on the second error.

That is the rule in the BD Members' Handbook, Rule 129 (Penalties for errors of course) (2026, effective 1 Jan 2026), and the calculator applies it automatically. Rules get revised, so where your rule book or sheet differs, the sheet is right.

Which British Dressage tests does the calculator include?

36 current tests, covering Advanced, Advanced Medium, Elementary, Introductory, Medium, Novice and Preliminary, each listed above with its movement count, coefficient movements, collective marks and the maximum printed on the sheet. Every maximum was checked against the published sheet before it shipped.
