Errors of course
ABWE's national tests print 2 marks for the first error of course, 4 for the second and elimination on the third. The Junior Team and Young Rider Team tests are WAWE texts and print WAWE's rule instead, 5 marks for each of the first two errors. Each test here follows its own sheet.

How many marks is an error of course under British Working Equitation (ABWE) rules?
Under British Working Equitation (ABWE) rules the first error of course costs 2 marks, the second a further 4, and the third error means elimination. Marks come off the sheet total before the percentage is worked out.
The Junior and Young Rider team tests print their own rule: 5 marks for each of the first two errors, elimination on the third.
That is the rule in the penalties line printed on ABWE's national dressage sheets (2024 and 2025 sheets), and the calculator applies it automatically. Rules get revised, so where your rule book or sheet differs, the sheet is right.
